5 Engagement Ring Trends to Expect in 2024

An engagement ring’s beauty should stand the test of time, both in quality and style. Many Pittsburgh couples have an idea of the type of ring they want before they come in for an appointment at Henne Jewelers, while others watch for trends to see how they can be incorporated into their personal style.

Our luxury sales professionals at Henne Jewelers have helped thousands of couples find their dream engagement rings, from solitaires to halo styles, three-stone rings, Toi et Moi engagement rings, and everything in between. Here are 5 engagement ring trends to expect in 2024 in Pittsburgh and across the United States.

1. EAST-WEST ENGAGEMENT RINGS

An East-West engagement ring has the center diamond or gemstone set sideways (think landscape rather than portrait). Some couples love this unique twist on a classic style engagement ring because it may make the center stone appear larger, and it also creates a cohesive look with the band. At Henne Jewelers we’ve had requests for East-West set emerald-cut, oval-cut, and marquise-cut diamond engagement rings.

2. HIDDEN HALOS & DETAILS

Diamond solitaire rings have continued to reign as the iconic symbol of an engagement. Even with the thousands of style options available to a shopper, we continue to see a large percentage of couples choose a solitaire engagement ring. A diamond solitaire engagement ring allows for a sparkly wedding band or ring stack that features various widths, textures and silhouettes.

Recently, we’ve seen a lot of demand for hidden diamond halos and diamond accents underneath the center diamond (the gallery area). In both cases the ring can appear to be a solitaire ring when viewing from the top, but has some additional sparkle and detail when viewing from the side. We expect hidden halos to continue to be popular in 2024.

3. RADIANT & OVAL DIAMOND SHAPES

Have you seen a radiant-cut diamond engagement ring in person? The radiant-cut diamond has an elongated shape similar to an emerald-cut diamond, but has facets more like a round diamond (not step-cut facets). The result is incredible sparkle and depth of beauty that is difficult to put into words.

It’s no wonder we’ve seen radiant-cut diamonds become more popular, and we expect that to continue. Oval-cut diamonds also continue to be very popular, thanks to its incredible sparkle. Oval shapes also can give the appearance of being larger. Watch for more East-West set oval diamond engagement rings, especially in a bezel or half-bezel setting.

4. THREE-STONE RINGS WITH FANCY SIDE DIAMOND SHAPES

Another very popular style for Henne Jewelers customers (and across the Pittsburgh region) is a three-stone engagement ring – but with fancy shape side diamonds.

A bride-to-be may fall in love with an oval center and a setting with pear-shape or marquise-cut side diamonds set East-West. More shoppers are asking for Cadillac-cut side diamonds and half-moon side stones. The result is a three-stone engagement ring but with more petite side diamonds that compliment the center diamond without competing against it.

5. BEZEL-SET ENGAGEMENT RINGS

Lastly, we've seen a lot of buzz around bezel-set engagement rings, for a number of reasons:

  1. Bezel settings can help keep a lower profile on the ring, which is ideal for professionals who work in the medical field or use their hands a lot.
  2. It's also a secure setting, with the ability to protect elongated diamond and gemstone shapes -- and even alternative stones that might not be as durable for everyday wear.
  3. It's a classy look for a solitaire, highlighting the shape of the diamond with an elegant, clean silhouette.

Designers Anne Sportun and Mark Patterson have some beautiful bezel-set engagement ring mountings, among others.

So, future Henne Couples -- which engagement ring trends are interesting to you? Whether you want a classic and timeless style or a contemporary-style engagement ring, we encourage you to try rings on. Do that, and you're sure to find your dream engagement ring.
