How they met
At the work Halloween party in 2016, Jasmine and Tom were both drawn to the vacant ping pong table. They introduced themselves, and challenged each other to a match. Tom showed no mercy, and quickly beat Jasmine. Being the competitive player she is, Jasmine knew that she had found a solid ping pong partner, as did Tom. They played regularly as they became equally-skilled players, and as their ping pong partnership expanded into friendship.
On a snowy night in January, they found themselves in deep conversation at a company happy hour. As colleagues trickled out of the bar, Tom asked Jasmine if she would like to grab another drink before heading home! Jasmine said yes, though unsure whether this was friendly or romantic… During the drive to the next bar, Tom turned on the Kanye West album (The Life of Pablo), and they both rapped together at the top of their lungs. This is when Jasmine knew that Tom would be a good friend, and when Tom thought that they had a chance at love.
After a few more one-on-one happy hours and a month later, Tom asked Jasmine if she would like to join him on a walk through Frick Park. They sipped coffee as they winded their way through the forest, and eventually made their way to a bench overlooking the city. They were soaking in the view when Tom expressed his romantic interest in Jasmine, and asked her if she would like to go on a real date. From that day forward, they were inseparable. They spent their time exploring the city of Pittsburgh, traveling the world, becoming closer with each others’ friends and family, and growing closer to one another.
About the Proposal
Tom planned the ring purchase and proposal for months as he sneaked off to Henne after work to mull over the options and discuss details. On their most recent trip to Toronto, the two enjoyed breakfast on the secluded Scarborough Bluffs beach. Tom set up a tripod with his phone to take a picture of them both. He slipped the ring box out of the tripod sleeve (where he had it hidden throughout the trip), dropped to his knee and popped the question. Jasmine said yes! They spent the day in utter bliss, celebrating at the Kensington Market and throughout downtown Toronto.
Looking toward the Future
Tom and Jasmine will be getting married in early 2020 in the LA-area, where Jasmine grew up. They recently moved to Chicago where they plan to settle in as a married couple.
