Jake and Diana met on a bike trip and had immediate chemistry. They began as friends and eventually became more, battling distance, separation, uniting once again, and moving to Pittsburgh. Jake secretly planned the engagement, and he proposed to Diana at the top of the Bourne Bridge, where they had biked across 12 years prior!
The proposal:
As the summer came to a close, Diana flew back to Boston to join Jake and the rest of his family on Cape Cod for one final relaxing vacation. A phone call led them to pull over and walk along the sidewalk to the apex of the Bourne Bridge, a bridge they had biked over 12 years earlier. When they got to the top of the bridge, Jake got down on one knee and told her that she was his best friend and the one. He never wanted to let her go again. Of course she said yes!
How They Met:
Jake and Diana met in the summer of 2005, when they went on a two-week bike trip across Cape Cod starting from Boston. They became fast friends, bonding over the long daily treks and nighttime shenanigans. Diana noted Jake's impressive cooking skills! The two exchanged contact information and promised to stay in touch.
One year after the trip, Jake and Diana tried to organize a reunion for the whole group, but it ended up just being the two of them. They continued to visit occasionally and stayed in touch, remaining just friends despite Jake's sister referring to Diana as "Jake's girlfriend".
In 2011, Diana was accepted into Tufts for graduate school, where Jake was finishing up his undergraduate degree. Diana was worried that Jake would think she was stalking him, but instead Jake finally asked her to be his girlfriend. The first year of their relationship was filled with fun adventures across Boston, but unfortunately they were separated by distance as Jake worked on the Obama campaign and Diana studied in Sweden. The distance took its toll and they broke up temporarily, but after two years they reunited in Washington, D.C. and got back together.
Jake and Diana moved to Pittsburgh for Jake to begin graduate school at Pitt. They talked about a future together, but Jake pretended that the stress of a doctoral program was too much for him to even think about marriage. However, Jake began to make plans after his first year of graduate school. He went on a secret visit to New Jersey to talk to Diana's parents and had several 'meetings with professors' -- which were actually Henne team members.
Looking ahead:
Jake and Diana couldn't be more excited to start the next chapter of their lives!
